Highly touted American forward JP Hurlbert needed less than two minutes to score twice and completed his hat trick late in the second, staking Kamloops to a commanding lead. Veteran forwards Tommy Lafreniere, Jordan Keller and Nathan Behm added the other tallies to round out the offense.

Between the pipes, 18-year-old Latvian netminder Ivans Kufterins turned aside all 32 shots he faced for a shutout in his Blazers preseason debut, while Rockets goaltenders Nathan Kam and Jake Pilon split duties at the other end. The result evened Kamloops’ exhibition record and set up a rematch in Kelowna the following night.
