As the new school year begins, British Columbia is welcoming more than 3,000 new student seats across the province, with even more under construction to accommodate growing communities. These new spaces include schools opening in Langford, Surrey, Trail, Abbotsford, Delta, Richmond, Kelowna, and beyond

In Langley, over 900 seats are newly available. This expansion includes 555 seats at the brand-new Josette Dandurand Elementary, 150 seats added to Lynn Fripps Elementary, and 200 seats introduced to Nicomekl Elementary.Meanwhile, in Trail, the replacement of Glenmerry Elementary added 156 seats, bringing its total capacity to about 435 students.Other notable additions across the province include 360 new seats in Abbotsford, 150 in Delta (Ladner Elementary) and Richmond (R.C. Talmey Elementary), and 165 in Kelowna through prefabricated classroom expansions.

The government emphasizes that these efforts reflect “historic investments in school infrastructure” designed to meet both current needs and prepare for the future. Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma highlighted that these new and expanded schools are already making a meaningful difference and will continue to welcome more students as additional classrooms come online.
