A Vancouver neighbourhood sees swift police response after a disturbance involving an axe on Thursday

Vancouver police arrested a 29-year-old man near Main Street and 24th Avenue after reports of threats with an axe and damage to a restaurant patio Thursday.

Incident Near Main Street and 24th Avenue

A 29-year-old man was taken into custody on Thursday evening, August 6, following reports of violent behavior in a local neighbourhood. According to a news release issued by the Vancouver Police Department on Friday, officers responded immediately after receiving calls that a man was “threatening passersby, throwing cutlery toward a restaurant storefront, and smashing plates on the restaurant’s patio” near Main Street and 24th Avenue.

Police Response and Court Date

With assistance from the Vancouver Police Department’s Canine Unit, responding officers located the suspect “within minutes” and made the arrest. Following his apprehension, the suspect was transported to a hospital to receive treatment for injuries. He was subsequently released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, police say.
