BC Lions Scramble for QB Depth: Tyrie Adams Signed Following Nathan Rourke Injury

A Major Blow to the Lions’ Offense

The BC Lions’ season has taken a challenging turn as reigning Most Outstanding Player Nathan Rourke is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. The star quarterback suffered an injury to his non-throwing shoulder during the second play of Friday’s disappointing loss to the Edmonton Elks. The injury occurred when Rourke was sacked by defensive lineman Noah Taylor, leaving a significant void at the helm of the Lions’ offense. Rourke, a two-time Most Outstanding Canadian award winner, has been the engine of the team, racking up over 1,400 passing yards through the first five games of the year.

Tyrie Adams Joins the Fold

In a quick move to address the depth chart, the Lions are reportedly signing veteran quarterback Tyrie Adams. Adams, 29, brings four seasons of CFL experience to Vancouver, all previously spent with the Ottawa Redblacks. Most recently in 2025, Adams threw for 405 yards and four touchdowns across eight appearances. After spending the early part of the year with the Salina Liberty in the Champions Indoor Football league, Adams returns to the Canadian circuit to provide much-needed stability for a BC squad currently sitting at a 1-4 record.

The Battle for the Starting Role

With Rourke out, the immediate responsibility falls on backup Chase Brice. Brice stepped in during the Elks game, throwing for 226 yards but struggling with consistency, recording one touchdown against four interceptions. The Lions also have 23-year-old Kaidon Salter on the roster, though he has yet to take a snap this season. The addition of Adams creates a competitive environment as the Lions look to salvage their season and find a rhythm without their franchise player. The coming weeks will be critical for the coaching staff to determine if Brice can rebound or if Adams’ experience will earn him the starting nod.
